The source of the Mekong River starts at the Tibetan Plateau, Tibet. It flows all year round from its original source through Laos, Thailand, and mostly
Kampuchea. Then it empties out to the South China Sea through Kampuchea Krom or the Mekong Delta (Southern Vietnam). All of these countries once formed part of the Khmer Empire, the predecessor of Kampuchea (Cambodia) today. The country is called Kampuchea, in English Cambodia, in French Cambodge, has the oldest civilization on the Southeast Asian peninsula.
